About
Dr. Pen-Jen (PJ) Lin is a scientist and educator specializing in protein structure–function and cellular quality-control systems. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds advanced training in biopharmaceutical science.
Dr. Lin served as a research scientist and faculty member at Texas A&M University and Western University of Health Sciences. His research focuses on endoplasmic reticulum–associated degradation (ERAD), a fundamental cellular pathway that identifies and removes misfolded proteins before they cause cellular stress and damage.
His work explores how ERAD and protein-folding mechanisms influence pancreatic β-cell health, type 2 diabetes, aging, cognition, memory, and neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Lin’s scientific contributions have appeared in leading journals, including Nature, Molecular Cell, Journal of Cell Biology, and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
